Why we don't use MDF
Most children's furniture on the market is made from MDF — wood fibres bonded with resins. Here's why ARCA builds with solid wood and high-quality plywood instead.
MDF
- ✕Wood-fibre board bonded with resins
- ✕Swells and delaminates with moisture
- ✕Fragile edges: one hard knock damages the edge beyond repair
- ✕Short lifespan with daily use
ARCA
- ✓Solid wood and high-quality plywood
- ✓Non-toxic water-based sealant, safe for children from day one
- ✓Stable structure that lasts for years
- ✓Can be sanded and re-finished
* The formaldehyde in MDF resins was classified as a Group 1 carcinogen by the IARC / WHO in 2004. High-density MDF boards often exceed recommended emission limits for occupied spaces.
